In the past years we have made many Zygo and closely related genera hybrids.Two of our main stay parents are Zygoneria Adelaide Meadows and Zygopabstia Elfin Jade. Both these give well shaped blooms and contain plant size while offering great spike production. Particularly appealing is the very clean and spot free foliage seen in these hybrids. Adelaide Meadows produces both clean sparkling greens and greens with dark splashes. Lips are dramatic with white throats and pink or purple veining. The scent is breath taking. Zygopabstia Elfin Jade is smaller in growth, has freckled flowers and having a white parent on one side can produce white progeny as in Zygopabstia Beenak Jester. When used with greens gives delightfully freckled and splashed flowers often with intense purple lips. flower production is excellent, its quite usual to produce 3 spikes per new growth and sometimes four!!!
We keep our Zygo hybrids well shaded in summer at least 80% shade and light shade in winter, around 20%. Most important in cold weather is to keep leaves dry. Never overhead water if temperatures are less than 10°C. water into pots and keep moist, just avoid the leaves. We pot them in coconut husk chip, feed them Osmocote High K. Good air movement is vital so give them enough space. You will be rewarded with lots of flowers and off mature plants often twice yearly.

Z. 793 Zga. Adelaide Parklands x Zga. Green Flash 'Bright Spark' A combination of two compact growing greens. We have seen a sneak preview of a couple of seedlings and they show a lot of promise, both green and both upright spikes with several flowers.

Z. 982 Zga. Freestyle Meadows '12' x Zga. Dynamite 'Mag' Freestyle Meadows carries 6 or 7 flowers and has most attractive patterns. Dynamite has been a super parent for compact growers and has green flowers with a violet lip edged in white. |

Z. 990 Zga. Adelaide Light 'Dramatic' x Zga. Elder Park '35' 'Dramatic' is a very good flower with vivid colour and super lip but doesn't often produce seed so we are looking forward to its progeny. The Elder Park is large with big brown blotches and white lip. |
